20TH SAN DIEGO JFF A WOW!

Representatives of the Santa Barbara Jewish Film Festival are traveling down the coast to scout out films at the San Diego Jewish Film Festival, February 10-21. Now in its 20th year, this blockbuster event will feature 51 films, 20 filmmakers and special guests in 5 locations. No wonder it attracts 30,000 visitors each year! A complete description of this year’s films, panelists, theaters and schedule as well as on-line ticket purchases can be found at www.sdjff.org.

The SDJFF is known for hosting the West Coast premieres of thought-provoking national and international independent films. This year is no exception. Some highlights of the 2010 festival are A Matter of Size about Israeli sumo wrestlers, which kicks things off; Mary & Max, an animated film about an unlikely pen-pal friendship voiced by Toni Collette and Philip Seymour Hoffman; and the documentary Against the Tide about divergent American-Jewish factions during the Holocaust narrated by Dustin Hoffman. As with many of the festival’s offerings, Against the Tide will be followed by a panel discussion.

See you there!

JEWISH FILM FESTIVAL-TO-GO

Try It . . . They’ll Love It!

Everybody loves going to the movies, especially if the films speak to one’s own life. Now you can attract new audiences and enhance their travel or communal experience by offering your own Jewish film festival. We’ve designed a turnkey package that is both economical and easy to implement, requiring virtually no extra work on your part.

IT’S WHAT’S HAPPENING NOW

Each year Jewish film festivals attract hundreds of thousands of fans to local theaters, synagogues, community centers and camps. Blockbuster festivals in San Francisco, San Diego, Boston, Washington, D.C. and Atlanta, regularly number 30,000-plus attendees. And they’re popping up around the globe from Buenos Aires to Copenhagen, Hong Kong and Sydney. Now, through the Jewish Film Foundation you can offer your own Jewish Film Festival to enhance any travel, convention or educational experience.

What a unique way to grow your guest list! Choose among:

  1. Classics and brand-new films Specialized themes:
  2. Jews and music, World War II, Israel, Jews-Around-the-World and more
  3. Features, documentaries, shorts and animated subjects

WHAT IT IS

A Jewish Film Festival-To-Go consists of three or more films legally licensed to be shown at your site and accompanied by a speaker, who will also act as a discussion moderator. The films, chosen with your input, shed light on the Jewish experience while providing high entertainment value to your audience. The films range from blockbusters, such as The Counterfeiters, an Academy Award winner about graft in a concentration camp; to documentaries, such as The Fire Within about Jews of the Amazon; and can include animated shorts, such as the lighthearted Backseat Bingo, about sex in a retirement community. We save you the hassle of searching out the films, tracking down the rights holders and negotiating fees while running technical checks to assure you high-quality DVDs. We also know what’s been the biggest hits on the Jewish film festival circuit.

HOW IT WORKS

Since each audience has unique needs, your input is crucial in having a successful Jewish Film Festival-to-Go. You give us the place, dates and makeup of your group. We then create a program to appeal to their tastes and send descriptions of the films for your review. After you’ve given your final okay, we provide promotional information about the films to help you build your audience. At show time, your facilitator acts as a greeter, introduces the film with pertinent background information, is on-site during the showing and, prepared with topics for discussion, moderates a Q. and A. The end result is an active movie-going experience that will generate much conversation long after the last credit has rolled.
